Terry 'Deserved' to Win?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usA lot of people seem to think that Terry 'deserved' to win. Their argument is that he won most of the challenges and that he is 'honest' and has 'integrity,' so he should get the million dollars.

Well, here's some food for thought:
1. Terry had an alliance with Dan, so much so that Dan said that he felt betrayed by Terry when he was voted off. Terry voted to remove Dan after promising him he wouldn't. Is that being honest or acting with integrity? I don't think so.
2. Survivor is a game of social interaction much more than a game of competitions. Group Immunity challenges are largely a crap-shoot and no one can expect to win all of the Individual Immunity challenges. Terry couldn't break into Casaya because he lacked the social skills. His only 'strategy' was to win all of the Individual Immunity challenges which is not a realistic game plan.
3. After the merger Terry couldn't make any real alliances with former Casaya members so he had no alliance to betray, so he looks honest. Late in the game it was easy for Terry to promise Danielle the final two with him and even easier to remind her of the promise after she won the final Immunity. Terry may be socially retarded but he's smart enough to know that he would have won the money sitting next to Danielle.

So please spare me the 'Terry deserved to win' talk. Yes he's a good father, husband and he honorably served our country as a naval aviator but in the game of Survivor he was one dimensional. He was good at the challenges but lacked in the social aspects of the game.

I like Cirie but she was the opposite of Terry. She was good at the social aspects of the game but weak in the challenges. Aras was well balanced at both parts of the game so he won.

AMEN
La Mina was my favorite tribe and Terry was my favorite, but it was obvious that he had a hot temper and was often insensitive to others. Recall the "wife vs. mother" debate with Aras. All he had to do was emphasize with Aras, but instead he insulted him. Likewise his fight with Cirie. He admitted during the reunion that she was right; he was angry with Shane being voted out. I was very disturbed when he bailed on Dan. The merge was coming, so his excuse of making La Mina stronger didn't hold water. I lost some respect for him there.
But the bottom line is that the game is a mixture of social attributes and strength. And the human factor under pressure is what makes the game unpredictable and fun and, yes sometimes frustrating. In twelve seasons, my favorite almost never wins, but what us couch potatoes think is not the thing. It is what the people in the game think. Remember, we only see 50 miniutes of interaction that covers 3 days of real time.

Actually, i dont think day ever said that he felt betrayed. And would be very interesting to hear your source for those words. After the merge, how many people did terry vote for? Two maybe... almost all of them were for one person.

Second, i would disagree about the game having equal significance on the social part of the game. It is clearly secondary. You can get to the final two being the worst social player by just winning the immunities. You cannot do that the other way around.

Only reason Aras won, was because his tribe came in with more numbers. If it was the other way around, he wouldnt even made the jury.

I think Terry was very smug and mean in this game. He was always flaunting his immunities, strengths, and rewards. He was always showing everyone how much better he was at something than the others. Personally I was cheering for Bruce until his health problems. After that I was all for Cirie. True, she didn't have the physical strength of most of the others, but she was very honest and truthful. Also, remeber that Terry had promised many people that he would give them the hidden immunity if they were in danger, and he never did once. hes a big fat jerk guy. thanks for listening!

Only time Terry ever promised anyone the immunity idol was if they would switch sides. And they didn't.

somewhere along the way, everyone abuses someone. One way or the other. I feel that Cirie played the game well. Yes, she also abused. She manipulated a few of the arguments by making a comment here or there and sitting back, with a chuckle. In some of the candid spots, she admitted to a "let's see what happens, now" after one of these inputs.
